Just found out we're opening at Midnight at GAME for folks to come get their PS3. So I get to work from 10pm till 3 am. Time and a half though. Should be fun actually, last one of these I did was the Dreamcast launch (and that was only to go and get mine) anyone here going to get theirs at Midnight? (UK, of course)

Manchester's GameStation opened at midnight for the Wii, certain they did it for the 360 too!

I'd love to work in a game shop over night... no idea why.

I hang out at my friend's store every other week since he's local to me. I wouldn't want to work there, especially over night. :)

I worked at Software Etc. I was young and more stupid than I am now.

Worked at a game store back when the Xbox came out. We got a preview machine and some games. Got to spend the whole night in the store just messing around with it. That was pretty cool. Don't know how much I'd want to work over night. Rather get my console and go home to play it.

Nope. Far from it. Our London (Flagship) store has 25,000 for Launch Day. Gonna be easy to get a hold of I would say.

You can just wander into any store, say "I want a PS3 when it comes", and they'll give you a pre-order. They're really struggling to shift them. Tbh, why they're opening at midnight, I don't know - they could do a normal 9-8 on launch day with the way they're going

They have about 50000 in total for the whole of the Netherlands. And the last news report I read about 80-90% were already spoken for. I'm guessing its not going to be easy to get one without a pre-order over here.

Not that I'd want to spend 600 euros on a games console in the first place... but apparently some people do!

I think midnight openings are very little to do with demand. It's all PR.

play and choicesuk (UK websites) are still offering really good bundle deals and launch day delivery.

I am most interested to see if supply drys up from people just walking into stores to get them. Might be a case for a lot of people: "Oh, well if they aren't sold out everywhere i might as well get one now...."

Or we could see big price drops for christmas.

Customer safety concerns lead chain to choose breakfast launch for PS3.
Leading specialist chain GAME has opted not to open at midnight for the PS3 launch this Thursday - following advice from the Metropolitan Police.

The chain's Oxford Street store was originally planning to hold a midnight opening event on Thursday (March 22nd). However, following consultation with the Metopolitan Police - and, given the high value of the PS3 consoles - GAME "has put its customers' safety first" and made the decision to open the store at 7am on Friday (March 23rd). As the GAME statement points out, this will guarantee that gamers have access to public transport and can safely take their consoles home in daylight.

The first 150 gamers to have pre-ordered the PS3 are invited to attend the store at 7am, where they will be greeted with bacon butties, pastries and coffee. They will also have the chance to claim Sony goodie bags.

"The launch of the PS3 is a big deal to our customers," said GAME's marketing director Anna Macario. "We are managing the launch so it is safe for them, and the only thing they have to concentrate on is securing their new console."

HMV has also opted not to open at midnight on Thursday. Virgin Megastores, meanwhile, will be hosted the official launch event at its Oxford Street store.

The cheapest goes for €698 in Denmark or $928 for those over seas.

I wasn't planning on buying it in the first place but it is still cheaper than building a computer from the bottom.

Mark Rein said something funny about the "they don't have enough PS3's" talk, then when they do have PS3's "they have too many" talk. I wonder what the happy medium is!
