With all the latest news on flash popping up lately, I thought I'd ask if there is any difference in terms of performance and reliability if your computer had its flash drive on the logic board like the new Santa Rosa chip or integrated into the hard drive like the new SamSung Hybrid Drives.

Is it essentially the same thing or is one better than the other?

I guess if it's on the logic board, it's up to the OS to make good use of it, but it's also a lot more flexible. The OS could move core OS and configuration files there for super-fast boot times.

If it's built into the hard disk, you simply get a faster hard disk. The device itself will cache files in the Flash portion, and the OS will treat the whole thing like a normal disk.
