I picked up my MacBook Pro from my relatives, which I am typing on right now. The laptop is in almost prestine conditiion. Just ONE problem. Right above the button to click open the MBP the little alluminum piece is bent outwards like someone tried to pry it open. Called up AppleCare and they said they will replace it free of charge. Damn that means a certain amount of days without my notebook. They said they are going to replace the whole bottom casing. I am happy but slightly disapointed as well. I am sure this doesn't happen to everyones notebook but it happened to mine. Too bad eh.

Small cosmetic issues wouldn't bother me too much, but if your going to end up selling it down the road, you are doing the right thing and gettnig the shell replaced.

Jamesw - I had the same experience about 6 months ago. I ordered my first ever Apple refurbished Power Book. The same flaw you describe was present with a few others. It went into the box and back to Apple the next day - so much for the refurbished to exacting standards......or whatever the advertising spin was.

What I never did figure out was what caused such a bend in the case - it was like something in the middle of the case pushed it out from inside?????

Reminds me of the chest busters from Alien :)
