And as SOON as I pressed the button I screamed "WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!"

I'm paying $600 to watch Casino Royale in HD. There's quite definitely something wrong with me.

Considering its the cheapest blu-ray player yet, and it includes a PS3, pretty darn sweet :D

 In ten year, the PS3 will suck. I don't want a 600 dollar console for 10 years, how about 5 years for 300?

well your already down to 4 years then........better hurry up and buy before its not worth the investment anymore.
(i.e. buy the NEWER version and all NEW accessories and hope its backwards compatible since you already spent 300+ on last-gen games)

even 4 years is enough for me honestly...plus I can't ask a company to support a console based on the time I buy it, only when they ship it.

As for support for last gen games, I think its here to stay, and it its not I'll keep my old system

and thats why I honestly believe Microsoft will never reach the 100 million mark.....for any of their future consoles
Not that its a bad thing, but I like the idea of spending more on games and less on hardware(the console itself).

I don't really care about the MS reaching certain goals, as long as they stay in the market..

While I agree that staying in the market is good for everybody, I don't think they willever reach their goal of "beating" Sony.
Simply because; per current trends, Xbox consoles don't have the longevity that PlayStation consoles are currently enjoying.

Of course, thats an entire topic in and of itself:
It will be interesting to see what kind of impact there is for releasing "gens" farther and farther apart.
Launching a year after somebody is one thing, but launching two plus years later kind of takes the whole "generation" classification and makes it a moot point IMHO

Were in this thread does anyone talk about the Wii? I talked about system live, at about 5 years which will most likely be around the Wii's live, but we directly talked about Xbox 360.

So talk about 5 years life time, which the Wii will have (about), thats bad. But talk about the 360(the system itself, not a general lifetime) and that ok?

Congrats on your purchase...in the next couple of months the games will start rolling out and you won't regret it that much so enjoy and welcome to the PS3 experience....which is not bad at all.

By the way...Casino Royale is kick arse dude.

    Bless

    Well, my reasoning was thus:

    - I don't like shooters on consoles, so the 360 has very little pull for me.

    - Being a Japanese console, the PS3 is very likely to wind up with a catalog of games which suits my tastes.

    - Blu-ray seems to be picking up quite a bit of momentum on the HD movie front.

    - The PS3 is by far the Blu-ray player with the highest value-proposition. If Blu-ray ends up failing, I have a game machine, rather than a brick.

    - My shoulder devil made me.

And Casino Royale was indeed a blast.

    sony fan....

how is your betamax tape collection coming along?

If history has taught us anything, Sony's proprietary formats will never succeed anywhere outside of Japan.

I like the PS3 - it has some big flaws, but it has it's strengths too.

Online gaming is still better on the 360 and I dont see that changing this generation, but PSN is certainly a step in the right direction.

The BluRay remote control for the PS3 is DAMN big and ugly though. Seriously it's like a remote control for the 'penally challenged'. Why does it have to be so long and with so many superflous buttons ?

I'm liking the still burdening PSN marketplace, I like the pricing structure.

And game wise, I'm enjoying Resistance more than I thought I would and
Full Auto 2 despite it's flaws I still find highly enjoyable game underneath.

Genji surprised me, as I hate the camera, and it can be fustrating as hell at times and the framerate takes a hit in battle, but yet I've enjoyed it far more than I thought possible, and I think the cutscenes and story hold it together quite well. It's certainly better than the early reviews painted.

NFS carbon is errr - well like somthing you'd squeeze out of your ass cheeks.

I have Fight Night Round Round 3 coming (bought from marketplace here) & Virtua Fighter 5 and will be getting Motorstorm, F1 in march.

BluRay movie wise well I only have Underworld : Evolutions & SilentHill but quality wise they are great, but not any different to my 360 HD-DVD player.

I think this "Sony systems have a 10 year life span" thing is being blown out of proportion with disregard for circumstances. PlayStation systems have been hugely popular, if a company sells as much as they are then it's going to have more longevity just because of it's market penetration.

Likewise, there is no reason to think that if ANY system (360 or otherwise) was to gain mass popularity (33-50% marketshare) it will probably live a good 10 years. All that really means is that games are still getting made for the system and you can still buy the hardware up until it's abotu two generations behind.

Consider the NES, released in 1983 in Japan, it had a good 50 games released there in 1993. In USA, released in 1985 and had many games released in 1994 (a couple in 1995 as well). That's 9 years.

As long as the user base is large and active a system isn't going to magically die after five years. I wouldn't be suprised in the least if 360 lasts just as long as PS3. Wii will be the exception here, my guess is well see Wii2 in 5 or less years... but with backwards compatibility this "lifespan" idea gets changed again...
