    i currently have a g4 ibook 12 inch 1.2ghz/1280mb ram/30gig gd/ 10.3.9

ok right now the HD in it is a 4200 RPM 30 gig and i want to upgrade it here is my concern.........

im wanting to get a 120gig+ 7200rpm 8mb cache HD for my ibook

-will a 7200 RPM create heat issues?
-will a 7200 RPM really decrease my battery life?

I also saw a 120gig 4200 RPM 8mb cache HD which is what i would get if i cant use a 7200 rpm or even a 5400 rpm

In real world usage, a 7200RPM drive has almost no effect upon heat or battery life. :)

I can attest to that. I DIYed an upgrade of the harddisk in my TiBook to a 7200rpm 100GB harddisk. Barely noticeable drop in battery life. Heat? What heat? Remember that these 7200rpm harddisks all have state-of-the-art power management technology.

    1 advise and 1 warning:
Advise: Go get an external firewire 2.5" enclosure and download Carbon Copy Cloner. Makes your life easier.
Warning: I read somewhere that the iBook's harddisk is not the easiest to reach. So if you're DIYing the upgrade, you better know what you're doing. In constrast, the TiBook was easy.
