    No more

They want to take over the X86 world and show how powerful the PPC line
is... PPC for all. I hope they concentrate in good cooperation with apple as well.
You know, more friendship and less customer relationship...

And I wanted to buy an IBM laptop last week!!

No mention of the chip making and PowerPC - interesting...

But like they said, its the end of an era.

So the phrase "IBM compatible" is no longer to be used?

Wow. I haven't heard that phrase for years. Most people say "PC compatible" or "Windows compatible." Actuallly, most people don't even say that. It's assumed that any PC that's not a Mac will run Windows.

    Huh, I'm not "windows-compatible".

Still, I'm rooting for IBM. I've always liked them.

wow, that certainly is shocking news..totally out of the blue.

i find it odd that they haven't mentioned their chip business. perhaps that's giving them good profits, so it hasn't given that division the chop..

certainly the end of an era..

I did see an article recently in the Boston Globe about the PC business. It said that PC sales are seeing a slight decrease. That by 2007 the current 10 PC makers would be down to 7. So it seems that the first one will soon be gone. Like others may the Apple/IBM cooperation continue to flourish.

That's an unintentional joke. The PC business unit would be out of IBM, which is nicknamed "Big Blue", i.e., PCs "out of the Blue".

Maybe Apple should buy IBM, boy would that be a coup:) Then Apple can finally release OS X for x86:) The Thinkpad line is a good line of notebooks.

not again  ... it's ok as it is, may IBM continue with their linux and server lines and I think in fact that they will, that would be a big kick for MS.

If Lenovo does buy IBM, that'll be great for Lenovo. They're already huge in China ... I would imagine this would propel them even further.

    Three words:

    Linux on Power.

I was talking about this over six months ago, and I would not be at all surprised to see big Blue forge ahead with their partners - Samsung, Toshiba, et al - with an IBM branded PowerPC workstation for the enterprise market. Their selling point... Be compatible with Windows through our software, but without the headaches and Microsoft fees. Hell, use our stuff instead if they get uppity!

Sad. I wonder who is going to takeover their ThinkPad line of notebooks? The ThinkPad would be only PC notebook I would ever consider buying. :(

Dang. 1 to 2 billion dollars for it... I don't have that much on-hand...

Otherwise, I might consider buying it. :D
