ibook problem

Hi, my first post

Friend brought in an ibook, told me it is a G3 600mhz, cdrw/dvd.
When started will chime, can hear hard drive loading OS but no video at all, not even a flicker. I know this is a broad statement, but any ideas as where to start will be appreciated.
