I have a three week old 12" ibook. Last night I was watching an atom film with it upstairs in my house. I closed it and was headed downstairs with it under my arm; halfway down I stepped on something the kids had left on the stairs and I fell; head first; ending up on the main floor having gone around an L-bend in the staircase; I held onto the ibook at first but it flew out of my hand and hit the floor flat with a loud, loud SLAP. I would have bet big bucks that the LCD was broken.

I dusted myself off (nothing but a lot of bruises and some minor swelling). I really dreaded it, but I finally opened the ibook and it started right up. I have not yet run the hardware test CD, but I popped in a dvd and watched for a while; I played some itunes, and I surfed the web. :)

Morals: 1) ibooks are tough. 2) leave the light on when descending stairs, and 3) always hold the handrail. :D

Yep, very tough. Mine survived my son spilling an entire can of soda on the keyboard.

the moral of this thread seems to be "if you have kids, an ibook is the way to go." :p
