So me and my wife have both got iPhones and iPads all set to use iCloud photos and set up to use optimised storage. She uses a different iCloud account to me.

We both have photos running on the iMac set up to store original image.

My question is what is the best way to send images to each other so we send the full hi resolution image?

If I select a number of images that are not fully downloaded on the iPhone and Airdrop does the iPhone download the full image first before sending it?

Today I plugged the wife's iPad into my iMac which opened my photos app and I imported a bunch of pictures which all seemed to be the hires images but was that because they had been viewed recently on the iPad or does it again download the full images from the cloud before importing them.
