When I sing (or speak actually) I'm like a Bontempi played badly... :(

If I could sing however, I'd like to be able to sound like Michael Stipe, I think he has a great voice... I like his saturnine growl, but also his peerless way of delivering a sorrowful vocal...... v.good! ;) :)

I'd also like to be able to smooth it up like Harry... ;) Mr Connick Jr is so smooth, that I can well imagine (if I had the talent that is) doing a round in Frevds on Shaftesbury Ave... I love Harry..... Harry rules.... ;) :D

If I didn't have balls however, I'd like to be able to sing like Beth Gibbons, if you've ever had the priviledge of listening to PNYC, you'll know exactly what I mean.... ;)

So folks.... who would like to be able to sing like???

P.S. Could anyone that replies please start their reply with...

"Tonight Matthew... I am going to be..... *your preferred singer here*" :D

    Mucho gracias!!

Chris Cornell. For those who don't remember music from longer than three years ago, he used to sing for Soundgarden, so that's not just based on his Audioslave career.

Cornell has an awesome range and a great texture to his voice. He emotes better than anyone I can think of. There are other singer/songwriters out there I like a lot that I wouldn't mind sounding like too, but none of them could bring a tear to your eye singing about peanut butter and jelly the way Cornell could.

Another female singer I would most like to sing like if I was a female would be Yma Sumac.

She had an amazing voice - but she is still behind Mariah Carey because Yma's voice is way to manly.

So actually - here are my singers:

If I was female - Mariah Carey
Male (which I am ;)) - Yma Sumac

    :D:D:D

Looks like Billy Howardell to me, none of the pictured look like MJK by my reckoning, but I could be wrong.

MJK would be my second choice. First in songwriting, but I'll stick with Cornell for voice.

[edit] Assuming you meant the second guy from the left? Like I said, could be wrong.

I would want to sing like David Wright. I haven't been taking voice lessons just to want to sing like somebody else.

jazz...mel torme....nothing like the velvet fog
rap...snoop dogg...like liquid on the mic.
    soul...barry white( without the girth)

I'd either want to sing like Andrea Bocelli if I'm doing balads and stuff like that. Or Luis Armstrong, for the grit sound. I really like that. Unfortunately I sing more like Chris Kirkpatrick (of N'Sync) and Thom Yorke (of Radiohead). If I was a girl I'd want to sing like Kim Shattuck (of The Muffs) when she get's all hard and gritty.
