In the past, I have created several Illustrator files that also needed to be saved for the web, but there is a strange and consistent problem that I have not yet found a way around... When saving an Illustrator file as a GIF or JPEG, it does not give you an option of what size (in pixels) you would like to save the file as. You would think that, as Illustrator files are typically vector line art, one should be able to choose a size at which to render the graphic for web and it would save cleanly to that size... but in my experience, this is not the case. It does not let you choose a size, and so I have to select the entire composition and resize it again and again, "trying" to save for web until it's close to the pixel dimensions that I need.

Any workaround for this that anyone knows of? Thanks in advance.

Got Photoshop? Set up a blank and sized canvas there as a template and place the Illustrator file into it and use either ImageReady or Save for Web from there.

Just paste a white box behind your artwork, sized to the pixel dimensions you want.
