Very nice. I would be jealous as well. She definitely got the better end of the deal between the two systems. :D

Seems like overkill for a school official. :p But I'm jealous of the backlit keyboard and Firewire 800.

It won't six years from now when she's still using the same computer!

Seriously, I've seen PowerMac 7100s in our local schools. They had Apple IIs until a couple years ago

I know schools that are still using Apple IIgs's today.

I'm actually kind of jealous, that was a very underappreciated machine...

What do they do with them. The computers in the middle school in my town are
iMac 333mhz 256mb CD (comp lab)
iMac DV 500mhz 384mb DVD (Teachers)
iBook G3 500mhz 256mb CD, DVD, or CD-R (most broken, working ones in
a box)
iMac G4 15" 700mhz 256mb SuperDrive (teachers and tech lab)
iMac G4 17" 800mhz 256mb SuperDrive (tech lab)
eMac G4 700mhz 256mb CD (teachers and tech lab)
PowerMac G4 450mhz 384mb DVD-RAM (teachers and tech lab-
apparently soon to be upgraded)
PowerMac G4 1.4ghz 384mb DVD-RAM (tech lab- upgraded CPU)
A Few Ti PowerBook 1ghz 512 SuperDrives (comp/tech teachers)
A Few PowerBook G3 500mhz Prismos (social workers and tech lab)
* According to the tech ed teacher some iMac G5s next year in the tech lab

Next year the rest of the school is switching to PCs.

Some schools seem to be VERY behind compared to the school in my town

My guess would be typing practice, writing stories, etc. Things that you don't really need a bigger computer for.

They also have iBooks for doing things like Garageband, but the school also realizes that just because a computer is old, doesn't mean it's worthless!

<looks furtively at the ][e with dual drives _and_ 80 collumn card (woohoo!) he has sitting in his office. Too bad it doesn't have a seiral port or I could use it for more than playing Castle Wolfenstien! :D >
