Well, in my infinite wisdom ;) i decided to part with my month old PowerMac 2.3 and 'put the money towards' one of the newer models. I only had it a month and seeing the PCIe systems made me seriously think that it was worth the jump - If only beacause the system will be quieter (im assuming) and that Apple (well NVIDIA/ATi really) wont be persuing anymore AGP graphics cards so i would have been stuck at 6800 GT level for the rest of its life as it were. I'm an advid gamer :p and one thing getting a Mac has done is made me appreciate the games and actually play them. So many arrived on PC that really id play through a game, either finnish it or lose interest and move onto the next. Buying a Mac has had the wierd effect of me actually playing games more :p

    Sorry babbling.

Right well things didnt work out how i had planned, I was going from a Dual 2.3 to a Dual-Core 2.3 - But alas my money situation is that thats an no go. So id be going for the Dual-Core 2.0, with the proper 6600, 250HDD and 1Gb of RAM (oh and Airport & Bluetooth!)... I can also squeeze in the cost of iSight :D which brings it all in within my budget still.

I have been tossing and turning though over what to do, go for this new Dual Core system. Or more recentley go for a Dual Core Intel System.

I won't lie, for the same money (infact less) i can put together a system that is quite droolworthy (3.0Ghz Dual Core, 2GB DDR2, 7800GTX or Dual 7800 GT's, 300GB HDD, Slot Loading DVD, ALU Case... ect) but the problem i face is then when i think... Windows. :( The horrid things i have to look forward too like Windows Vista... and Leopard. I really wanted to see that as Tiger is awsome.

    *Sigh*

So im just pondering. There are more advantages to go with the Intel system (more performance for less money, more games ect) but after using OSX its making me hesitate to really go back to Windows fully. I guess tomorrow ill know, ill either be the same reborn MacFan or going to the 'Darkside' with Microsoft's minions :p

I want to go for the Mac. But my 'head' is telling me to take notice of the huge leap in specs that i can get for less money... Yeah the choice is mine at the end of the day but its frustrating when i thought id got this all worked out and now it gets complicated ;)

I'd go for the mac still, i know that the better specs are tempting but they will mean nothing in XP.

Also you should take into account the powermac will have a FAR FAR better re-sale value than the PC....

    I'd go for the Mac for various reasons;
1.Better looking piece of kit, beautifully designed and very well built
    2.OS X
    3.Much better investment
    4.Full warranty

Anyway its your choice, but we all know you will do the right thing,

Don't buy the Mac, since it's a bad investment.

Okay I was just kidding around, you know it's the statement is truth. ;) :D

    Ok,

I was so close -- to getting the Intel system. I've had the parts in the 'Cart' for the past few hours trying to summon teh courage to click 'Place Order' :p I had the drive at 400GB! It was all going 'LOOK AT ME IM GONNA GO FAAAST' but... Windows. Meh i used to worship Microsoft not so long ago, i remember being excited with the XP beta releases :p

Then Steve Jobs appeared and free'd me, and said 'Look you dont have to use Windows you know -- there is another option' he's a bit like Moses i guess.

...So I couldnt do it :( im getting that Dual Core G5, ordering it tomorrow when the CWONLINE store opens. Sooner the better so i can't chang emy mind again. Hopefully i can get 24hr delivery -- Even though there are a few 'options' to add to it. Hope im making the right choice :p

what are you going to do with your current dual g5? if you sell that off you might be able to get the dual dual monster.

Going from dual processor 2.3 to dual core 2.0 is probably a step backwards.
Try and save the money for the dual core 2.3Ghz, it will just be that much better :)

From the numbers we've seen, dual core 2.0 is a step up, from a dual processor 2.3.

link? the only theoretical benchmarks i've (here on the board) seen say the dual core 2.3 is about where the dual 2.5 is. but thats all theory.

even if it where true then it's about a 8-10% gain. that makes the dual core 2.0 not better than the old dual 2.3.

If you read the originall post its not the processor that is really influencing the buyers decision it is more to kdo with the PCI-E addition as the user is a heavy gamer......

Just remember that the Nvidia drivers wont run "No One Lives Forever" Other than that, I wouldn't swap a dual proc 2.3, for a dual core 2.0.
