While trying to write a review on this search engine called Gigablast, for my TCOM 451 class, i decided to search for my last name. Turns out i am related to Andy Hertzfeld. It just so happens that he was called a Software Wizard at Apple for writing most of the burned-in ROM Code, and for writing some of the Macintosh OS, and helping to contribute to its GUI.

It just is incredible the amount of work he has also done for the GNOME desktop in Linux. He now contributes to the Open Source Applications Foundation, promoting the easy of use on the Linux platform.

I think it would be cool to meet him, or talk to him.

What a surprise it must have been to discover the connection you have. Instead of skeletons in your family's closet, you found a superstar!

Can I have your autograph? :p

Ok, so far i have asked many of my cousins. It also turns out that i have another relative named Andy Hertzfeld, he was also a programmer, now i'm not sure if we are related. I was told earlier today by my older cousin that he might be a distant relative, a nephew of my Grandfathers? Not sure yet, need to read up more on my family tree.

I will post when i finally find out if he really is or not.

So far my dad has established that he thinks it maybe a distant cousin of his, not mine. But, he still thinks we are related, or at least distant relatives. I still think its cool either way.

Hey Ryan if you really want to find out the answer email him. I did about 3 years an ago (he owns hertzfeld.com that I wanted) and he sent me an email back. I asked if he wanted to sell and he said no. He did offer to give me an email account though. If any one wants to see some good apple history Andy now also run s http://www.folklore.org , an apple history site. All the articles are written by early apple employees about how apple got started. He gives some cool info about how they solved early design and engineering issues.
