    Hello
Since my brother might soon take over my MB, I though about getting an iMac, since portability isn't a real issue for me, and I'd like the larger harddrive + better GPU.

Since I have been pretty impressed with the MB speakers compared to speakers in other laptops, I just wanna ask how the Core Duo iMac speakers, also compared to MacBook/MacBook Pro. I've heard many 17" MBP tell about the awesome speakers in this awesome laptop, yet anyhoo, I'd like a very clean setup, which would exclude external speakers, so how are the internal?

The iMac speaker(s) are better than I expected. I listen to iTunes and movies and am pretty happy. It is no home theater system but my realistic expectations aare met/exceeded.
I cant compare to MBP as I dont have one.
I you like the 'Apple' look consider sound stix or creature speakers. Lots of good reviews here in the posts.

Thanks. I would rather avoid external speakers, both because I really can't afford some that look nice and sound good.;) I am more considering the bass. It is allright in the MB, but is not a "true" bass, it has some sort of click sound over it, whereas I'd like it to be more "bassy":p . Also the volume. Though the MB delivers very good quality sound, it can't go very loud, which is why I'm urged to plug in external speakers when watching DVD's with my freinds on it (and 'course external monitor;) . Does the iMac go loud enough, so that you can watch a DVD, and still hear what they're saying, though you may have a conversation going?

I can hear movies from across the room just fine.
As far as bass, the iMac speakers are not going to shake the floor or even close.
For a cheap computer subwoofer, check out yard sales. I have seen lots of people sell computer speaker sets for $15 or so. They may not be white but just put them out of sight and you will improve your sound quality alot.

I don't care if it shakes the floor. I just want a more rich bass than that of the MB. I have some extremely good speakers on level with Soundsticks, found them in a Dansih shopping center called Bilka for $10. You may compare it to Albertsons, but also sells clothing and electronics. They are white, with a white cable, and have a very Apple-y look, yet, I don't like the idea of an external speaker. The iMac is an all-in-one computer, and all I want attached is mouse, KB, both through Blueooth. And oerhaps a printer.

Also, screen brightness? Do you know whether the screen is brighter than MB/MBP. I find my screen to be delightfully bright...:D Yet if the iMac is even better, that is teh sweetest...
