Description:: Just what's under the sleek, white plastic shell the new Intel-based iMac Core Duo? That's a question that can now be easily answered thanks to a photo series just posted on the Japanese website, Kodawarisan, that leaves nothing to the imagination:

Is it just me, or does the overall inside look of the new iMac look very messy? In that picture that shows the whole thing it just looks like someone literally threw some fans, boards, and random wires in there.

What the.... the Intel chip isn't even sporting the new logo -- how disapointing! ;-)

Out of sight, out of mind.

As long as it looks sleek on the outside.

I disagree. It seems like Apple is going for cheap production, rather than easy upgrades. For example, to upgrade the hard drive, you need to get the front cover off using a credit card-like plastic tool, then remove the LCD panel and a foil-like material. Compare this with the older G5s, where you just remove the back cover using a screwdriver, remove a fan, then change the drive.

However, apparently the mess isn't new to the Intel model - the internals have apparently been messy since the move to PCI Express. I have the last AGP model, and it's nice and tidy inside.
