Okay, so I was offered a very nice price on a refreshed, demo model of an iMac G5, Rev B. and decided to go for it. I was hesitating slightly because of the issues with heat and fan noise. Now that I've been using it, I'm still on the fence. The fan noise is definately an issue. I seem to have one with a noisy CPU fan. It definately ramps up and down with even slight alterations in temperature. Running nothing but safari and itunes, it's been at 153F -159F (68-69C) and the fan is running at about 3100-3300 rpm. The hard drive seems stable (118F & 2500 rpm). The fan noise is not particularly LOUD but the high pitch and alterations in frequency make it hard to ignore. So...two questions: 1) Have people with this model successfully found ways to reduce the noise from the CPU fan? 2) Are the new models truly an improvement in this respect? Is anyone, with the new isight model hearing the fans ramp up and down? If this really is improved on the new ones, I may return this one and get the isight model instead. Thoughts, suggestions, experiences would be appreciated.
