If it me or is the 20" screen a tad on the bright side? I have set it to the lowest brightness setting and it still seems rather bright

    It's just you...

No seriously though, it could depend on a lot of different issues. Try the built in calibrator. If it's still too bright, ie washed out looking, you may have an issue and may need to take it in. Usually I hear that it's the other way around, screen too dark.

if your computer is next to a window on a sunny day you wouldn't be complaining about the screen being to bring

I find that it depends on the background picture.

The stock apple one is fine, but when using dark pictures such as cities at night, the display seems much darker.

The screen is not washed out. I set it to the max and its really bright and sharp.

Just had a look at the specs, and apparently the 20" is about 15% brighter than the 17".

    From tech specs:

    Typical brightness: 200 cd/m (17-inch models); 230 cd/m (20-inch model)

Yeah, but with the way LCDs are calibrated at default by manufacturers, you may still wanna calibrate the thing. ;)
