i recently heard that imacs are basically laptops, i may find this true since the processor is a "mobile core 2 duo" and the gfx is called "mobility" radeon x1600 and notebook ram is this how other view the iMac?

To achieve the iMac's form factor (heat wise mostly), a mobile processor was used. The trade-off is very low, and performace remains top-notch.

I have an iMac and love it. It performs well even under stressful coputing situations.

I really enjoy my 24" iMac. Its fast, compact and quiet. Front Row is great too, love it! I used to have Powermacs and this was my first consumer mac. Haven't looked back since getting it.

I have a brand new 17" iMac C2D 2.0 sitting in my closet (Christmas gift for sister) that is just taunting me to open it.

There's nothing wrong with giving a Christmas gift before the 25th right? ;)

You can wait hanschien. :p Opening it up on Christmas morning will provide room for much more hype, and therefore fun.

Even though it's a gift I bought for my sister, how hard is it to re-box it up perfectly?

I think the iMac is a great system- period. If they're basically laptops, then they're REALLY cheap and REALLY great.

I doubt that you will be able to repackage it perfectly.

Perhaps you should just wait 10 more days to open it. :p

I have kinda the same thing. Under my Christmas tree is a square box and a big rectangular box. Hmm seems to me it's a Mac Mini and a display. My parents put out my presents early just to bother me. Grr they are evil!

Well, since the iMac is about as thick as some PC laptops, that pretty much sums it up.

    Better hard drives though.
