Is there any benefit in using an iMic over the audio-in port on my Mac to record cassettes/LPs?

I'm using the iMic right now and it seems to be OK. I tried the audio-in and the signal seemed to be equally as strong. The only thing I noticed with the iMic is that occasionally the sound gets distorted with echoes/reverb during recording. I don't think it's affecting the recording, just the monitor playback during the recording process. Is this because I'm going in USB? Anyone used the CD Spin Doctor that comes with Toast? That's what I'm using.

    Thanks for any info!
