Sometimes I let a family member play with my iPad and I didn't think much of it. Recently, I heard on the radio about some people getting charged a lot of money because their kids seemingly unaware purchasing digital items in a game. Does the iPad ask you for your password before an in-app purchase? Or does that vary app to app? Anyone ever been screwed by this?

If you're concerned, you can enable Restrictions and disable in-app purchases. (Settings > Restrictions)

Also, while you purchase the item in an application, you'll see a pop up window to ask for the password of your iTunes acc.
