Can anyone recommend a good 2- or 3-star hotel in New York? I'm visiting a friend next week for lunch and will need to stay overnight.

I'd like to be as close to Fifth Avenue, zip code: 10011 as possible.

A 2-star would be more affordable, but I can't tell one from another online. Would appreciate advice on a 2-star where you've actually stayed.

    Thanks!

(I'm only there overnight, so it doesn't have to be fancy. Just CLEAN and SAFE.)

Dont know what you'll find in Manhattan thats cheap.

My family stayed at the Pan American hotel in Queens, it was a nice hotel. Absolutley nowhere near 5th ave if you walk, but its only about 20 or 30 minutes on the subway

I stayed at Hotel Thirty Thirty, was on 30th St (funnily enough) so might be a bit far away. But it was very nice indeed. I don't know how much exactly as was part of a deal thing inc. flights, but it is supposed to be 'budget', albeit nice budget.
