I know some poeple here have some experience with linux, im wondering if anyone can suggest what happened here-I was installing SuSe linux on an old laptop, this was my first time installign linux. I bought a linux in a box type install for the tech support, etc.
Here's the problem: Everything installed fine but it never asked me to set up a root password or username, but now it wants one to boot. What do I do? Is there a default password or some sort of exploit I can use to get around this and get in? Also, can anyone figure out why it is giving me a shell interface instead of a graphical one? Even if you can't help, a link to a helpful site would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a genious with linux, but what is sounds like is your machine isn't powerful enough to run your version. At least in graphical mode. As for the password thing, I'm not sure.

    Gone but not forgotten.
When it asks, you might try typing root and pressing <enter> for the user and just pressing <enter> for the password.
