    Without service providers rolling out WiMax networks, what good would that be? I'd rather wait until I can actually receive the service before shelling out money for it. By then, I am pretty sure the hardware will get better and cheaper as well.

    In any case, I remember a high ranking official at Intel claiming that WiMax was going to change the dynamics of the laptop market, where the service providers would subsidize laptop purchases in return for long term service contracts just like in the cellphone world. He was pointing to PDA-phones as an example, stating that it is hard to get one nowadays without a service contract. That could make things interesting if it happens.
