I enjoyed this well produced documentary. Intel's top engineers talk about why they are doing what they are with parallel computing and where it is going. Also covers the problems with moving software design and theory to take advantage of it all.

It is 7 parts, each 4-5 minutes long and should auto play through them.

More history than future. The Xeon Phi isn't introduced until episode 7. However, it is illustrative that the required software changes have been worked on for many years so it isn't like software is behind. Much more so there are legacy, designed a decade or two ago, applications that are behind.

ASCI Red (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCI_Red ) was decomissioned in 2006 after put into service in 1997. It isn't like the hardware that required the software changes hasn't been around for decades at this point. Whether "on a single die" or not doesn't really make a large material difference to the software.
