What dvd drive do you have in your intel iMac ??
Mine has Matshita.
My MacBook Pro 2.0 has MATSHITADVD-R UJ-857
Matshita ... isn't that the mother company of Pioneer (the US branch?)
Matsushita is Panasonic/Technics/National.
Pioneer is, well, Pioneer and TAD.
Mine has a: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846:
This is my second, first SD was DOA
Matshita as well.
Matsushita also controls Japan Victor Company (JVC), among other brands
how do i even check to see what mine is?
Mine has a Pioneer drive. Looks like I'm in the minority. I got it when they first came out.
My 17" iMac has the Pioneer DVR-K05.
Is it safe to say that all 17" Intel iMacs are Pioneer and all 20" Intel iMacs are Matsushita?
No, mine is 17-inch and its Matshita. Mine was manufactured 2 days after Steve's keynote.
that's wierd I have a 17" and mine is a Pioneer
does anyone have the problem that there is a little humming, rubbing sound every few minutes when running a dvd?
I would start to try burning all media, i.e. DL, +-R, RW. I had a SD DOA in one and a loud SD in the one before it. The SD in mine now is nice and quiet.
Matshita dvd-r uj-846 in my iMac dc 20" done everything accept DL dvd
My iMac 20" rev. b has a Pioneer DVR-K05 as well, as another poster said his had as well.
My first one was a Matsushita, but it crapped out on me right away, and Apple replaced it with this Pioneer one instead...no problems so far.
