Apple today released new versions of iOS 10 to both developers and public beta testers, and as with any major beta update, there are several small changes and tweaks that have been implemented as Apple works to refine the operating system ahead of its release this fall.

Today's update, available as an over-the-air download for those who installed the first four betas or the beta configuration profile, features a new Lock screen sound, tweaks to the Control Center and widgets screen, and more.

We've rounded up some of the biggest changes in beta five in the video below, so make sure to check it out to get a quick look at what's changed. We're also listing all of the changes in the post below.

Smart Battery Case - The iPhone 6 and 6s should now work properly with Apple's Smart Battery Case. According to the iOS 10 release notes, the case will no longer cause devices to panic.

Photos - Apple plans to reprocess facial recognition data in beta 5, so all named, favorited, and merged face data will be reset.

Lock sound - There's a new sound when locking the iPhone. It sounds like a door closing.

New Output icon - The output icon seen in the Control Center, the Music app, and other locations in iOS has been slightly tweaked. It is no longer represented by headphones and instead resembles a triangle with sound waves.

Settings - The "Home" section in the Settings app has been removed on the iPhone, as it served no purpose, but it remains available on the iPad.

Widgets - The new widgets panel, accessible by swiping to the right, now displays the date on all devices.

They completely changed the typing sound effects too. I liked the short lock click that they had in beta 4. The door closing is kind of novel. I wish they would give the option to change this.

Odd, I'm still getting the Home section in Settings on my iPhone.

Edit: I removed the "My Home" item from the list and now the Home section has been removed o_O

> The biggest change is a new lock sound

smh

Was anyone experiencing issues with the Smart Battery Case before? The one I use has worked just fine throughout the betas.

Does anyone know what "panic" was being cause with the Smart Battery Case? Have been using the case since beta 1 and have not experienced an issue.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Shake iphone Left, Right, Left, Right. Yes! Music successfully paused

Hadoken!!

I wish they weren't messing with Control Center so much. It's like when Exposé was perfect in about OS X Leopard, then they started messing about with it and ruined its brilliance, even if you could technically do more things. I'd love to have options for customising it more, but once you start having to scroll and swipe, you might as well be back in settings, so it defeats the object.

For what possible reason might they want to avoid people's attention being drawn to the subject of headphones?!:rolleyes:;)

I wish Apple would give an option to disable that annoying popup that says Moisture Found in Lightning Connector every single time i plug in my phone. I understand how some people may want that, but I have been having this issue for weeks and have done every thing I can think to remove any moisture whatsoever from my phone and it still pops up and I have to dismiss it twice and then another popup says "you had a lightning port problem, file a radar?"... all that just to charge my phone...

EDIT: After updating, I discovered a new look to the "moisture found in connector" popup. Now instead of dismissing the notification twice, then clicking either "file a radar" or "not now", you just slide to dismiss it once and it goes away. Still annoying but this is better than dismissing 3 popups after plugging into power.

Finally they made the new keyclick sounds louder -- they're the same they were in beta 1, but no longer require headphones to hear :)

It's a beta. It was in the dev notes that it would happen, it'll be resolved before GM. If it really bugs you, roll back to 9.3.4.

Well lets see if this brings stability and fixes. I was able to download apps in beta 4 without it ever asking for a password. Never seen that before.

That lock sound seems very awkward. I prefer the one currently.

The current lock sound can be too easily mistaken as a camera that more than once, I've been accused of taking a picture in an elevator or in an otherwise quiet room where the lock sound can be heard.

I'm looking forward to the change.

When you switch the phone in and out of silent mode with the switch, its not longer a vibrate, but more of a haptic feel on the 6s.
