My ipad 3 charges in 6 hours from dead to 100% on the 10 adapter. I thought about getting the 12w adapter don't think that 45 minutes is not worth the $20.00 to me.

Is this Apple's cute way to resolve a long battery charging issue?

Add 2 more watts to the adaptor and also sell it on apple store for $20.

The issue is partly the USB standard and the battery's ability to take on juice.

It's not an issue. It's more of a convenience. Long charging times? Just wait around and do something else.

45 minutes per charge. Assuming that you own the device for 2 years and that you only charge your iPad once a week, that's 4680 minutes or 78 hours. That's 3 days saved over the course of 2 years. Crazy! $20 well spent!

That is if you always unplug it at 5 hrs 15 min every time. Most of us plug in the iPad and forget about it for 6-7 hours anyway.
