I have a 6s Plus with the same issue. Will Apple replace the battery for me, or will I have to pay for a new battery? ( considering that the serial number check on Apple's website says mine is not eligible)

I've had my replacement phone for a while now, and the problem has gone away completely. Battery performance is MUCH better overall.

In the UK at least, the plus isn't officially covered, but...

I booked an appointment at Regent Street with my 6S Plus (bought on launch day so certainly in the time frame for build problems) that's been shutting down at c30-40%. The chap said the Plus wasn't covered, but due to the numbers of people coming in with with pluses he said he anticipated them to do a recall on them as well, but couldn't/wouldn't confirm.

I asked that given my handset was over a year old and out off warranty, where that left me. He said that because I bought it from an Apple store I was covered under consumer law. He said he could do some diagnostics and if there were battery issues identified he would replace the handset free of charge.

He hooked my iPhone up to the store wifi and then started a diagnosis process on my phone that gave results on his iPad. The results showed lots of unexpected shutdowns and battery problems. Without quibble he called a runner to get a replacement handset.

So there is certainly a process in place for us Plus customers experiencing the same problems. :)
Did you reset your phone before bringing it to the Apple store ? Cause I reset mine and I'm wondering if they'll still be able to do the diagnostic to confirm the faulty battery...

Some news for me: they finally changed my 6S with a refurbished one for the battery problem, but after few weeks the problem presented AGAIN, when I was at 11% (with the other one it started like this and after a while it was dying even at 45%). I was furios...this need to stop. So I called Support again and they just told me to WAIT for a new iOS upgrade that will soon fix this problem. What? So meanwhile I need to take a battery pack always with me? Lol

I had the same problem with my 6s and I had the battery replaced for free by Apple. I used this as an excuse to upgrade to a 6s Plus 128GB and I bought one but soon it showed the same problem. Sent back, got a replacement, 3 days, same problem. Sent back. Now I decided to stay with my "old" 6s with the new battery which at the moment seems OK.
In my office, nearly everyone when hearing my "story" says "you know what?mine does it too!" but most of them didn't care about it. It's a joke that Apple products suffer this issue on such a gigantic scale. My advice is, do not accept replacements, just get a new battery because Apple is not able to detect which devices are defective.

The most funny part is Apple saying “small number of customers outside of the affected range (made between September and October 2015) have also reported an unexpected shutdown"
SMALL??? CMON APPLE. Be serious and do something concrete..

Thought I'd add my conversation with Apple today re random shutdowns around 65% on my 6S plus.

Around 6 weeks ago I took my phone in to my local store and they reset my iPhone as new and did a battery diagnostic but found no issues.

6 weeks later and it's happened again, so I contacted Apple via chat today and was told this..

Brought to Apple and they said nothing wrong with battery, that it had to be a problem with the logic board, and since out of warranty it was $329 to replace. So we did. It was on iOS 10.2. If I find out I spent an unneeded $350 after taxes for a bug in iOS i am going to raise hell.

For similar issue I got the battery on my iPhone 6 replaced. I'm going to demand a refund if it turns out to be an issues on their end.

Did your invoice say the repair was for battery problems?

My 6s+ is also shutting down around 15% - 20% and has been progressively getting worse over the past two months. It seems to mostly happen upon said percentages and opening apps. I thought I would add my situation to the forum just incase it will help with a recall solution.

apple Japan replaced my 6s battery at no charge (during december 2016).
it was after apple announced the exact models that had the free replacement program.
new battery does work much better and longer. nothing abnormal.
can get down to 1% and not shut down unless I stress it at that point.

No solution yet. Genius Bar in my town doesn't have any appointments available for the next two weeks. Last time i was there i met multiple people that were also affected.
To me, this issue seems much more widespread than is being reported.

Had my wife's battery replaced by Apple on Dec 26. On Jan 16 it shut down again at 34%. Chatted with support and they did a diagnostics. Battery and iPhone checked out good. Apple support had me set up as new and restore. Still shutting down although she's gotten down to just below 10% before turning off.

No unexpected shutdowns in any of our 3 iPhones since I replaced the batteries in December. All three of our phones had repeatedly and frequently shutdown unexpectedly and were launch day 6ses with serial #s that qualified for replacement. I did the replacement myself, since I wasn't too excited at the prospect of coordinating with Apple for repair with for three seperate devices.

My 6s just exhibited this problem.

Usually, I top the battery off daily but since it's been a few months of doing this, I figured lets do a deep discharge to check all is well.

Bang...reached 20% and a little later the phone just shuts off. Tried twice to power on and wouldn't...gave me that no charge icon.

Plugged the cable and then was able to boot the phone. Disconnected cable and the phone stayed on...ran the battery down to zero.

My SN is in the batch Apple says is affected (as is the date of manufacture though that doesn't count), but I don't want to bring it to Apple Store because the phone is tweaked to perfection (courtesy of jail-break) and there's a spider crack in lower right corner which Apple will insist I pay $$$ for before battery replacement.

Well I finally did it. My 6S, which I got on launch day in 2015, was listed as eligible for the program. I hesitated initially because something told me that things wouldn't end up going smoothly. I had a feeling that, if I took it in, they would either tell me that it worked but my data got lost, or that it wouldn't work. So I was holding out. However, last week, my phone shut down once at 19% battery and once at 40% battery - while downloading app updates. After those 2 incidents, I decided I'd had enough and I set up an appointment for the weekend to bring it in.

So I go in for my appointment, and I tell the specialist what the problem is as far as early shut downs, that I looked up my serial number online, and that it appeared that my device was eligible. He verifies my serial number, confirms that it is eligible, and tells me that they have the battery kits in stock and will replace at no charge to me. He tells me that it will take 2 hours and gives me this sticker with a barcode on it, telling me to bring that back in 2 hours.

I go home and then come back at the appointed time. It's a different specialist now, but he tells me that when they tried opening my phone up to do the battery swap, one of the tabs broke. He said that is a safety issue somehow and that since they could not perform the work, they are replacing the phone, free of charge. Basically what I was expecting to happen, because I was dubious of the battery swap working out for me in the first place. So, at the end of the day, I have a new phone, but it was a pain to have to restore it. As long as I don't have more early/random shut offs, I will take it.

Apple replaced your device and your sole dissatisfaction so far was restoring your device?! What more were you expecting?

Anyone in the UK with the shut down issue on an iphone 6 able to replace it for the roughly £70 AND the issue fixed?

My battery is "healthy" but is a PITA because of the shutdown issue.
