KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has twice claimed the next 5.5-inch iPhone, tentatively referred to as the iPhone 7 Plus, will carry 3GB of RAM for improved performance, and now DigiTimes echoes that in a new report.
Increasing built-in memory capacity at next-generation smartphones, including new iPhone devices, will further ramp up demand for memory products in the third quarter, said sources, noting that the mobile DRAM capacity of the next-generation iPhone is expected to increase to 3GB from 2GB previously.
The report stops short of specifying whether the 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch, or both iPhone 7 models will have 3GB of RAM, but in general it will mark an increase over the 2GB of RAM in the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE.

DigiTimes has a mixed track record at reporting on Apple's upcoming product plans, but its supply chain sources have provided accurate information on occasion in the past, and the rumor is backed by the more credible Kuo. The increased RAM should prove valuable given the camera improvements expected with the new iPhones, including a dual-lens system on the 5.5-inch model.

Deutsche Bank has also thrown its weight behind the 3GB of RAM rumor, although its prediction is likely based on Kuo rather than independent sources.

And they will call it an iPhone Pro to justify the 100€ price increase but but we will get a starting point of 32GB ... in 2016...for the price we used to get a 64GB one for! And antenna lines that got improved ... I mean look like they simply peeled off

Ah, keeping things simple I see.

Bigger = Better = Pro = $$$

The regular 7 won't need 3GB of RAM as it'll have a "regular" camera, what's the point in adding it?

The one "feature" I actually want. I hate when apps refresh on my 6 Plus.

You're in for a treat then when you upgrade from the 6 Plus to the 7 Plus. 1GB to 3GB of RAM.

So you have to spend more, and go up a screen size in order to get new features on the 7... okay. Why doesn't Apple just release an iPhone 7 Plus only and forget about the 4.7 model till next year.
Sounds good to me. I like the 5.5" size.

On the other hand, it does appear as though they've updated the rear-facing camera on the 4.7" phone, and there will be a faster processor and likely a new minimum 32GB flash storage, so those who want to upgrade this year and prefer the 4.7" size will appreciate it if Apple doesn't follow your advice.

Are you certain that the increase in the RAM is specifically for that exact purpose?
And not to just chime in the Pro moniker to gain extra $$$?
Okay then.

Since when did having a better camera require an extra gigabyte of RAM? That's a ridiculous excuse for having more RAM.

Having more RAM is great for keeping multiple apps open so they don't have to reload each time you switch back to them. I'd love to have 3GB on a smaller iPhone than the plus.

I'll have to believe that until I see it... Apple takes awhile to upgrade RAM on their devices.

The 6s just received a 2GB of RAM after years of iPhones having 1GB of RAM, and since the introduction of 2 iPhone launching with 6 and 6 Plus Apple has been known to keep the spec sheet fairly across the board minus the screen resolution & OIS. I remain skeptical of this until I see it.

Okay then.

If there is a difference in the amount of RAM, the reason will not be marketing. Apple never reveals RAM amounts. The only people who know there's a difference will be nerds who visit MacRumors.

Wait. They're not going to put 3GB of RAM in the SE? But that's what I was planning on getting when my contract is up in September. WTF Apple; don't you know you need to design your phones around my specific needs and no one elses?;)

In for all the complaints about specs when specs have never been something Apple has pushed. It's not about the processor inside but how the software and hardware work together. This is how Apple has been able to out perform others with far higher hardware specs in the past.

The 6+ and 6s+ were rumored to be "pro" models with way more features. Only differences have been battery size/life and video stabilization. I believe they will keep the 7/7+ on the same ground still.
