Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus could feature improved charging speeds, according to information shared by Twitter user The Malignant, citing an unverified Chinese source.

Alongside an image of an iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 logic board comparison that does not seem to divulge any clear info to confirm the rumor, The Malignant says the iPhone 7 will feature "at least" five volt two amp charging.

Apple's iPhone models currently ship with a 1A/5W charger, but are able to charge more quickly with a 2.1A/12W iPad adapter. With the rumored fast charging feature, charging speeds would presumably be even faster than using an iPad charging adapter with a current model iPhone.

Improved charging speed is not an iPhone 7 rumor that we've heard before, nor does it come from a reputable source, so this information should be viewed with some skepticism. Twitter user The Malignant appears to share a variety of rumors and information sourced from Chinese social networking sites, not all of which is reliable.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 7 at an event rumors suggest will be held on Wednesday, September 7. More reliable rumors about the device suggest it will feature a slightly redesigned body with relocated antenna bands, camera improvements, a faster processor, and no headphone jack.

a thinner battery will always be faster to charge to 100%.

True, but the latest battery rumor I read said it would actually be a higher capacity battery than the 6S. That said, this article isn't really exciting. All it's saying is that the iPhone may ship with a 12 watt charger vs the dinky 5 watt ones. So really no different then what iPhone's have been capable of since the iPhone 6. Samsung's fast charging feature for example, can not only take advantage of a standard 5v/12w charger, but supports >5v charging for even faster charging.

There is a lot of tech other manafacturers offer as standard that Apple can include in the 7... None of which are revolutionary in 2016

Watch Samsung copies this

Samsung already has Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0: 12V 3A, meaning 3x more power than Apple's 12 W charger.

The way Apple does things, we'll probably all have to buy new Lightning cables (because they're active cables), and all new proprietary chargers, car USB adapters, power packs, etc.

I've seen some people here asking for wireless charging, but what's the point? You don't stick a cable in your phone, that's it? I just don't see the usefulness in that. I do have something that might be useful: put a bigger battery in it, maybe then we don't have to charge the phone every 4 hours.

Clearly until you have it you won't understand how damn useful it is.

Certainly the standing wireless charger that samsung have out. No need to worry about finding a cable at night and needing to switch the light on to find the port. Just put it on the charger and connects straight away. Even better with Always on display on the samsung phones to see the time at night when you randomly wake up. Most samsung users will tell you it's a feature that you would miss not having.

I'm in bed, I want to check something, I just pick the phone up off the pad, use it, and put it back on, all in the dark, and letting me roll over without ripping the cable out of the phone. Apple made this use case even worse with Lightning because the connector is so small.

I'm still not convinced. I always charge my phone to 100% before I go to sleep. And when I go to sleep, I'm out until the alarm goes off. Anyways, wireless charging should be less of a priority than a bigger battery, I do hope we can all agree on that.

Mods: this is completely false. This myth has been tested, and tested repeatedly, and been busted everytime. Thats not how the circuitry is designed to work. It only draws in as much power as needed. No more.

Please stop spreading this misinformation.

Edit: I stand corrected. iPhone is capable of 12w charge for 6 and higher models thus far.
