i had a 6s + and it was never hot but the jet black 7 plus feels so hot under heavy use, others having similar issues.

I had the same problem but I checked battery usage and there was some extreme background activity going on. I don't think it's normal and hasn't happened to me since.

Could be a contributor to the hissing noise under a heavy load as well.

I felt this and realized it was attributed to all my music still being downloaded the first couple days I had it. After that it went away

I was loading a video in an iCloud shared folder today and it heated up like I've never felt before. Also heard a slight slight hissing sound

Agreed! Phone was very hot the first few hours when it was restoring everything.

heat transfers better from the glossy surface, and dissipates better on the matte surface. So the gloss just feels hotter.
