I have nearly finished developing my first iPhone App. Before I take the plunge and send it to Apple, I would appreciate some suggestions on testing it.

Having worked in a formal software development environment, I know the importance of using professional software testers. But being new to this game, I am not sure of where to go. I have googled and found some iPhone App testings services at www.testing4success.com, and www.testiphone.com and there are plenty of articles out there if I choose to test it myself.

My issue is I don't want to take the risk and not do any testing, so I would really appreciate some suggestions from other iPhone App Developers on what they normally do.

I hope you can help, any comments/suggestions greatly received

You could get some testers on these forums. They might not professional, but they are probably users.

Professional testers are good for finding bugs, but you might have more success if you can tap in to your target user base instead. For example, if your app is designed for students, get student to test it. That could work out cheaper too - if it's something that genuinely interests them, they might do it in return for a free copy.

Ask their opinions, but don't implement every new feature they suggest. Instead, concentrate on what they say when you ask them how they'd feel after a few weeks if they could no longer use the app. Also ask them what they find most annoying about it.

I hope that gives you some ideas. I have never used a third party testing company before. If you go down that route I'd be interested to hear what your experience is like.
