Unfortunately I haven't found any clear information about adding more harddisk space to an iPod.
I wanna extend an iPod with a 2.5" 500GB disk, which does not necessary has to fit within the iPod case (as it is meant for building into a car).
Though I am already using my 3rd iPhone, I am not familiair to the iPod family at all.

Can someone help me out with the following questions:
    - What kind of iPod should I puchase exactly for this purpose (should be easiest possible with that one, no matter whether 2nd hand or so) ?
    - Where can I find the required adapater for connecting the larger harddisk ?
    - What else should I take in consideration or in mind ?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Can laptop harddrive withstand the temperature fluctuations / potential condensation of the car?

iPod classic is the only one that might have a chance to work.

And I found something easily by googling: 2.5" drive ipod

The iPod Classics use PATA drives with ZIF connectors. You can convert the ZIF connector to a full IDE connector, but you won't be able to use a SATA drive - you'll need a PATA drive.

Older iPods use standard PATA connectors.

iPod Minis use standard CompactFlash connectors

Also the iPod may lag a little - none of them are built to deal with 500gb.
