iPod iPod accepted track from iTunes but now doesn't

Brand new iPod nano and some troubles understanding how to get music from old ipod transferred...

Anyway managed to initialise iPod on PC and to transfer music from iTunes. Then moved iPod to connect to iTunes on Mac and transferred a track from this iTunes also no problem.
Therefore had achieved:
iPod has tracks from iTunes-PC
iPod has a track from iTunes-Mac

now reconnect to iTunes-Mac and drag and drop of track from iTunes-Mac music are not accepted.

How can I get music from iTunes-Mac onto the iPod and why did it accept music on the first occasion and no longer?
