If you are listening to your music, you probably aren't staring at the screen at all. In fact, your ipod is probably hanging on your belt, in it's case.

So, why doesn't apple engineer the software to turn off the screen after a few seconds while your playing music? You could hit any button to turn the screen back on. Wouldn't that save the battery life a bit? Just a thought. Seems like a good idea to me.

The LCD display, without backlight, is one of the least power-draining devices on the iPod. Just think of digital watches, many of them now have full LCD faces-- they run for months and months on a tiny battery. I doubt disabling it would give you more than one or two minutes of extra playtime.

Then again, the display is rather large, so maybe it drains more power than I imagine. Anyone know exactly?
