Is there a car stereo that I can plug my iPod into. I would like to be able to see my songs on the receiver itself, other than trying to pick a song while looking at the iPod.

There's a decent selection now. I purchased my alpine almost a year ago. Their current line can be found here http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/products/series.php?category=AV_HU.
If you go to your local Best Buy you can touch the product (or you can visit their website). In addition to a head unit, you need the iPod adapter ($99). I believe all Alpine head units are iPod capable.
Pioneer has similar products.. i'm just not familiar w/ them. I'm sure best buy's website has more info. Also a simple google should be helpful too.

I have the older version of the Alpine DVA-9965 (same thing without the DVD) and have no problems with it and absolutely love the "GlideBar".

I highly recommend Alpine over Pioneer

I can't say that I like the GlideBar all that much. It does allow you to get through menu's quickly, but always find it very tough to get to the artist/song/playlist that I need... it always goes right past it.
Do you have the same problem, mustard?

I have an Alpine unit without the glidebar. The sound quality is excellent, but the scrolling speed with the knob is terrible. Even worse, it's constant! No matter how fast you spin the knob the items scroll past at a glacial rate!

I have the 2006 Alpine head unit and I didn't need to buy an extra 'box' or anything, just a simple cable similiar to the one you connect to your computer and that's it. I believe all their new 2006 units don't need the extra box anymore, so I would go for those, works great for me on my nano, and it charges it too. The cable was like 20 bucks, definitely worth it.

Also, the songs show up on your display, and you choose what, like artist, song, album, etc. You can browse your music selection on your unit as well, works great!
