I’ve never owned a iPod dock but am thinking of picking one up. I usually charge my 2G Nano when the battery starts to get really low or runs out. Would plugging it into the dock all the time, even when it doesn’t require charging, effect the battery?

Long term it might. If you're going to be running off AC power essentially all the time the best thing you can do is force yourself to run the battery completely down once a month.

This just stretches the battery's legs a bit and keeps it healthy in the longer term.

Personally I have a recurring event in iCal that shoots out a reminder on "battery day". Even better is that because I sync my iCal events to iPod, I get a reminder on the iPod itself on battery day.

I just unplug the dock and let it run off power until it's completely down. Then I charge it all the way back up and continue on with my usual routine.
