iPod Ipod Nano - Not connecting to Itunes

Guys,

Please help. I have a firends ipod nano, he has been strugggeling with it. After a while i noticed that something is wrong with it.

The device itself works, but theres no songs on it.

When i connect it to the PC, it says on the device, that it is now connected, but it doesnt show up in Itunes. Itunes crashes and thats it.

Is there some way to put it in DFU mode or something to try and restore it?

(I tried hard resetting, did not help.....)
