Description:: Then I felt a brief tug on my ears, and silence. The iPod had fallen through a hole in my coat pocket and skidded across the platform like a bright white hockey puck. There was a sharp thwack as it slammed into the side of the subway car and fell into the crack between platform and subway, down to the tracks. The whole moment had the brisk finality of a goal in air hockey.

I would have never jumped down. I'd just buy a new one!

Guess I'm a poor student, I could never afford a new one! I always thought it would be deadly to get on the tracks - not because of the trains but because I could be electrocuted. I don't remember how different the NY Metro is to the Tube... In London, I'd have probably just gotten a station dude to help me out :p

Well, here we have the "3rd rail" that carries the current; it has some wood over it, and it is elevated about a foot off the ground. Also, it generally is on the side away from the platform. Still, its very dangerous to go on the tracks, and highly illegal. People seem to forget that trains have brakes, but they cannot stop!

    Gasu E.

Someone should publish a book of "iPod stories."
