We pay $49 for 1gb version

Earphones worth $29 - Link

Dock worth $29 - Link

$29 + $29 = $58

iPod Shuffle worth: -$8

Apple's new ad should be:
BUY IPOD SHUFFLE WITH NO ACCESSORIES, AND WE PAY YOU $8!

That's a good point, I'd never thought of it like that. It becomes an even better if you get a refurb, which is only $39.

It's not that the shuffle is too cheap, it's more that the separate earphones and dock are too expensive

The reason for the high prices for parts both at Apple and Toyota is that customers are willing to pay those prices
