IR remote question

I'm using the apple remote with a IR repeater that works great with all my other equipment but for some reason it doesn't work very well with the apple tv. It works but it's very bad, I need to push several times to get it to respond.

Does anyone have any idea what apple is doing with the ir that wouldn't be compatible with a standard repeater?

Is anyone using a repeater that works with the ATV?
