Iraq signs away oil contracts in advance of election

    Newsnight (BBC2 TV) has just carried a report about an investigation into how much oil revenue the Iraq administration has signed over to western oil companies in advance of next month's elections. Some estimates have the value of these Production Sharing Agreements as high as $190 billion (6 times the GDP of Iraq).

    These PSA's are generally unbreakable 30 year contracts.

    Who said this war was about oil - cynics!!
