    We've been hearing for awhile that the numbers are far higher than what's being reported. I'm not surprised by that. But the sheer number difference is a bit surprising.

    Not much, but a bit.

    Even this has echoes of Vietnam all over it.

    Old timers like me :D will recall that towards the end, the Pentagon got caught doctoring the numbers of U.S. troops that had been killed and wounded. Of course, they were making it look much better than it really was. Reports would come back like, "86 Vietnamese killed today, two Americans wounded."

    People suspected that was BS, and eventually it blew up in the Pentagon's face. It became yet another nail in the coffin of that war -- if you'll pardon the expression.
