It seems as if every matte owner is returning their C2D MBP, or is not satisfied with it. Are these issues widespread or localized? Should all potential matte buyers steer clear?

Only if you feel like being troll fodder.

You know when people photoshop up 'new' mac hardware to start rumours? Well there is a similar buzz to be had with telling people who are really enjoying a new toy that said toy is actually a heap of crap and they could have spent their money more wisely elsewhere.

There are also the type of people who so desperately want a 'good' machine that they will suspend reason and opt for group reassurance from anywhere and anyone. This is where trolls find cheap but still rather amusing pickings.

If you want anything but reassurance for spending a ton of money then you really have to take a more scientific approach.

Now and again we see examples of hardware that get through quality control, these are usually well documented in a 'reliable' manner.

I rationalise this by comparing hardware prices and seeing what Apple is competing with these days. Things will be wrong sometimes. We really would have supply and value issues if every MBP was 100% without doubt perfect.

If it makes you feel any better and perhaps allows you to start thinking 'scientifically' rather than 'emotionally' then I'll have to admit that every time I spend a ton of money on 'Toys' I feel very guilty.

Hope that helps you through the 'data' we're being presented with.

Matte 17 c2D flawless screen, no dead pixels, perfect backlighting, probably the best display image I have ever seen. This is my 4th laptop, my first mac, and I have owned/own 9 LCDs of varying sizes.

I love my matte screen. My buddy ordered the glossy, after seeing mine, he exchanged his for the matte, it cost some, but he tells me it was well worth it.

    So go figure.

I haven't heard of anyone NOT being satisfied with theirs. Everyone I know LOVES theirs. I haven't heard anything remotely close to what you are talking about.

Love these sorts of posts - where did you get this information exactly? Perhaps from a forum thread titled "Complain about your Macbook Pro here!!"? :D

I have the matte 15" C2D Macbook Pro, and I love the screen.

Nah, this is an escapee from the 'which screen is best' war, erm... I mean thread. Obviously democracy didn't do it for them and the undermining of 'Matte is best' is now well under way. Damn those glossy terrorists.

I heard that anyone with a glossy screen (yes all Macbooks and some MacBook Pros) actually have a damaged sense of smell as well as the more obvious poor sense of judgement.

(I'm waiting for 17" matte btw, and obviously have little better to do with my time than feed trolls here)

Not only that, glossy screens make children cry and wives/girlfriends will leave you. Also Santa will move you over to his "naughty" list.

You may want to re-think your usage of the word 'every' considering how many people in here will gladly disagree with you.

Every: "Constituting each and all members of a group without exception."

You sir, are obviously wrong - as EVERY matte owner is not returning their C2D. Since I was searching through dictionary.com, I decided to look up two other words you might know something about:

Slander: "a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report."

Troll: "An electronic mail message, Usenet posting or other
(electronic) communication which is intentionally incorrect,, or the
act of sending such a message."

For the record.. I'm extremely happy with my matte screen, no issues at all and wouldn't even think of returning my C2D MBP for any screen related issues whatsoever.

Why do I hate these posts so much..?

So far, I am satisfied with my 15" MBP. It is about 2.5 weeks since I bought it new at the local Apple store. The screen is sharp and bright; casing is as beautiful as my AL PBs; it is as fast as I would have wished; it runs my favoriate apps (Office 2004, iTune, Safari, CS2, MX2004, iWorks, and others) smoothly.
I bought this so that I can take it with me on the road daily; but, after getting it, I changed my mind as I don't want to put this MBP subject to the potential on-the-road accidents and scratches (I should have known this to happen as it happened to all of my PBs). So, my daily abuse is handled by my iBook (but, i still treat it well).

You may be a bit harsh here. He did say it seems like it. And if you only read those threads, it would seem like that.

    I'd say it's a vocal minority.

I got my c2d 15" matte on nov2. since August I had been using my wife's glossy macbook. Her mb's screen was nice. However, after getting the matte mbp, I realize more and more why I like the matte on this so much more.

I got annoyed by the reflections I would get on the glossy. Also, after some hours of use, the glossy can be quite hard on the eyes imo. The matte screen is easy to look at and doesn't give me headaches after a couple hours. There are no reflections to worry about either.

As far as colour richness/saturation, yes, the mb seems to be more saturated or rich, however, for my use which is photo editing, this over-interpreted saturation can be deceiving and counterproductive. When I leave saturation levels low in editing program (since the picture is already quite saturated) and I post it on my photo site, it looks duller from another computer looking at the picture on the site.

So, I can now understand more and more why photoediting is better done on a matte screen.

My response could be more of a general matte vs. glossy response, but altogether, I can say I love my mbp matte screen. No complaints at all here.
