Well, i wanna get iSight but i'm not sure if i really Need it or i just want it for the sake of having it clipped on top of my iBook so i really need advice. Well, i don't use AIM really that much, only a few buddies on my list and i use MSN Messenger most of the time and it would be pretty awesome if i can get video to run on Msn but i don't think that's possible at the moment...as far as Mecury, it's laggin and aMSN just doesn't seem to work for me. I played around with Photobooth using my dad's iSight and it pretty much gets boring after a while...well, so what should i do? should i spend that money and get an iSight or what? it seems that lots of my friends are having webcams and i don't wanna be left behind but the mac and msn, it just doesn't work...

Both work fine. I can safely recommend the Airport Express. But the iSight, I guarantee you won't use it as often as you think. Even though I use it once in awhile for capturing video with iVeZeen, and scanning barcodes with Delicious Library, the novelty wears off really fast.

I don't think there's a zoom. But it does have an autofocus, so at far distances objects/people are clear.

    Mini DV Camcorder

if you can get your hands on a Mini DV Camcorder or digital 8 they will work via the firewire just like the iSight and they have zoom capability as well.

I use my Sony TVR22 with AIM via iChat. No Problems.

I would contend that the iSight is a luxury and would only in rare cases be a necessity. If you are trying to be frugal, don't get the iSight. The novelty on these things always wears off after a time, and if you don't have many friends who have an iSight themselves, the fun would seem to wear off quickly.

I agree, I bought the iSight about a year and a half ago and I never use it. I would buy a Nano or another Airport Express before I would buy the iSight.

    iSight advice

I use my iSight every day. My oldest daughter is away at college, and I video chat with her almost every day. At least for now, she continues to indulge me. It has been great to be able to talk to her and see her. At work, with a fast connection, I get 30 frames per second, and at home, with a DSL line, I get 15 frames a second. She pixelates a little when she moves too fast, but otherwise there is very good picture quality. If I did not have some one to video chat with, I would see little use for the camera, but in this application, it is great.

I would not buy an iSight if you don't have need for it.

I bought one when they first came out, and never used it until my first child was born and now we use it so I can see her while I am at work.

By the way it is a good webcam and very sturdy, my girl likes to throw it and bang it on the table. We have never had a problem with it.

I'm going to be getting one soon because I'm getting tired of hooking up my huge prosumer cam everyday to work on my thesis.

Anyone know how soon your iPod battery claims come in? I mailed mine in about 3 weeks ago and I want to wait until I get it back so i can get one for $79.

It all depends on how many friends/family have webcams/iSights. I bought a pair - one for me, one for my dad. We use them 2-3 times a week. I have friends who have moved all over the world. Nothing like getting together on a weekend night and having a party with people thousands of miles away. I've also spent hours on end playing scrabble with friends who live overseas/ Very cool device if you use it.

this is me, bought a pair for me and my gf for use while shes at college. Her lil sister just recently started school a near by school too and we use the isights to help with her math and other hw. But if you're not going to effectively use it 2-3 times a week, then dont buy it.

I'd be interested in a iSight but I have failed to see any applications that allow cross platform for both users, e.g. Mac to Windows. Since most of my friends have windows based machines. Anyways, thats why I haven't gotten an iSight.

    Cheers,
