I'm pretty sure my iPod is gone forever, but I just want to make sure. Is there any way to fix this at all? I'd rather not have to spend a lot of money paying someone, seeing as I plan on buying an iPhone, but is it possible to bring it back to life?

Can't tell from the photo. I have a 'Pod which I believe is dead that I wouldn't mind converting to an external drive if I can bring it back without taking it to a shop. I dropped it from about a height of six feet onto a linoleum floor. It won't charge and I think it emits a soft click then a whirring noise for a couple of seconds.
