I remember using simple text to have the computer speak whatever, and I mean whatever, I wrote many years ago. Is this amazing program still around, and if so, can it be used on OS X? I'd love to get a few more hours of laughs on my new G5!

Simple Text does still exist in OS9, somewhere in the Applications (Mac OS9) Folder.

Also, text edit will read your text better than ST ever did, and works with your settings in the Preference Pane.

Well, not exactly...It is stubborn about keeping its file type, which means that I can't write HTML files in TextEdit.

    Really rather annoying.

Its file type (I'm not on my mac right now and the actual file type has escaped from my mind) also causes problems when you try to attach a TextEdit file to an e-mail. Often, the e-mail program will paste the message into the e-mail, but with the markup tags that stylize text.

All in all, I miss SimpleText's SIMPLICITY, too.

Going to have to call BS on that, write your HTML code, then select it, and choose make plain text. You can then name it .html, and it will work.

Damn straight. I use it to write html, javascript anc css files regularly. It might just be the Panther version but when you first save a plain text file that does not have a .txt extension it asks you if you want to add one but after that it never asks about the file again.
