The reason I ask is that one online reseller is offering the following:

    Apple PowerBook G4
    867MHz Motorola PowerPC G4, 384MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, 24X10X24 CD-RW/8X DVD-ROM, 56K, 10/100 Ethernet, Mac OS X 10.2 and a 12.1" XGA active-matrix display

    for $1,249.00.

I could get the Rev B for $1399 (Ed discount) so I wonder if this is a good deal.

    TIA.

    Bo--

If it were me, and I had the extra $150, I'd go for the new version. Personally that looks like a true no-brainer.

    Best,

That deal there is just stock apart from an extra 128 RAM. Get the new model with your education discount and then later get a 512MB RAM stick from crucial.com (I lived without this no problems for 4 months).

The new model has USB2, mini-DVI (instead of VGA) out, a much better graphics processor as well as a faster (with 2x L2 cache) processor and a max ram capacity of 768 instead of 640 (if you don't use the expensive 1GB modules, which are available for both). And of course you'll get PANTHER AND iLIFE '04 INCLUDED. This is all well worth it IMO.

    Thansk, guys.

Agree, the 1 GHz is better. USB2, Bluetooth, better memory architecture.

The funny thing is that Apple sell the mentioned model refurbished for $1199.

I forgot to mention taxes. That $1249 has no tax but Apple's $1399 has tax. Still the Rev A is like an iBook.

Well I don't know if the I would say the Rev. A is like an iBook. I would like to think my Rev. A is not like a powerbook anyways. I do think that the Rev. B is a much better deal. At least you get 10.3 with the new one. I'd say that alone is worth it, not to mention the other hardware benefits.
