...is core duo temp just nuts. In the Core Duo machines, the 2.0GHz MacBook ran at 1.83 when idle and only ran at 2.0 when the processor was being tasked. However in the new C2D models the processor is shown to be running and full clock all the time even though CPU usage is like 2% and no fans a blasting away?

CoreDuoTemp isn't exactly an accurate app. (There is a reason the developer dumped the project... just couldn't make it work)

The C2D Macbook (pro)'s do throttle back. Try using Hardware Monitor 4. You will get more accurate information.

I've seen my processor speed vary from 1.5ghz to 2.0 ghz using coreduotemp, but most of the time it reports the CPU running at 2.0ghz, and I can't see any reason to when the speed changes.

The speeds vary constantly. An app that reads the current speed isn't going to see all of the changed and it is just reporting on the speed at that time.. Also, CoreDuoTemp is a processor hog, and will keep a constant load of about 1~2% on the CPUs, therefore keeping the clock from dropping.
